Biography

Adele Shartzer, MPH

Adele Shartzer is the Special Assistant to Diane Rowland, Executive Director of the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured and the Executive Vice President of the Kaiser Family Foundation.  She joined the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured in July 2005 as a Policy Analyst, working on a variety of issues concerning health coverage for the low-income population.  As Diane Rowland’s Special Assistant, Ms. Shartzer coordinates health policy analytic projects and initiatives and assists in the research and development of Dr. Rowland’s presentations, journal articles and reports, and testimonies.

Prior to coming to the Commission, Ms. Shartzer was a Research and Policy Assistant at the National Institute of Health Care Management Foundation.  While there, she worked on grant-funded research analyzing health plan initiatives to combat the obesity epidemic, implementation of health information technology, geographic variations in health care quality, and strategies to address children’s mental health.  Ms Shartzer also worked at the non-profit consumer advocacy group Families USA, focusing on financing for Medicaid and SCHIP as well as the implementation of the Health Coverage Tax Credit.

Ms. Shartzer received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and a Masters of Public Health from George Washington University.
